Blithe Boswellia frereana, known also as Maydi Frankincense, is a hearty, long lived tree that grows at elevated altitudes in the sand-burnished limestone highlands of Somalia. It is so highly valued that a single tree is often bestowed as an inheritance.
This legendary Coptic Frankincense tree can grow up to forty feet high with a trunk that may extend to two feet in circumference. At the top of the tree is an array of narrow green and silver leaves that are slightly crimped along the edges. Multilayers of papyrus bark peel off in strips to reveal a golden transparent layer that resembles oiled paper. A tap placed into the bark exudes a stream of aromatic, milky white sap that hardens into a golden resin. This resin is steam distilled to produce Frereana Frankincense Essential Oil. The tapping, collection, and distilling is a tribal tradition, and the special craft is handed down from generation to generation.
The resolute attributes of this mighty King tree are bestowed into its restoring essential oil, which is a wealth of bolstering and bracing plant components, such as a-thujene and a-pinene. Made into a super-softening serum, a melting massage oil, or mixed with clay to make a compress, it fortifies and eases making it feel easier to get up and go. This Boswellia brings lithe into life!
